The GNSO’s Role in Internet Governance

What role does the ICANN Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) play in Internet Governance?  What is the GNSO doing to bridge the digital divide?  To answer these questions, this presentation will first provide a brief historical look at i) generic top level domains (gTLDs), ii) early Internet governance policy issues that the GNSO faced, and iii) the evolving structure of the GNSO.  The presentation will then focus on specific GNSO policy development efforts, past and present, that impact Internet governance, with a particular focus on bridging the digital divide.  Finally, an overview will be given about what GNSO changes are coming in the future, how those may contribute to bridging the digital divide and how community members can be a part of that.
